The first two parts in the Stack’s Bowers/Sotheby’s series of events offering the D. Brent Pogue Collection are now in the history books. Collectors bid over $25 million to purchase the 128 coins presented in Part I in May and over $26 million for the 105 lots sold in Part II on September 30. The top bid in Part I was for an 1808 quarter eagle that realized $2.35 million, a new world record for any coin of the quarter eagle denomination. It also became the most valuable 19th century U.S. gold coin ever sold at auction. The highest price realized in our September Pogue event was $4.993 million for the legendary Lord St. Oswald 1794 silver dollar. For more prices realized, visit StacksBowers.com/Pogue.
Part III of the D. Brent Pogue Collection is scheduled for February 9, 2016. Catalogs can be ordered by calling 800-458-4646 or the entire sale can be viewed online at StacksBowers.com.
