Stack’s Bowers Galleries presents the Official Auction of the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Expo, Numismatics from the Colonial Era to Modern Times

Numismatics from the Colonial Era to Modern Times

Welcome to Baltimore!

Welcome to our latest Baltimore sale. This auction is one of the most diverse, most interesting we have ever held at the Expo. There is something for everyone among American coins, tokens, medals and paper money, in four separate catalogs.

The Whitman Coin & Collectibles Expo is a numismatic tradition stretching back many years. Held three times yearly, these shows are among the top five countrywide each year. The upcoming sale will be a magnet for collectors, dealers, and others, hopefully including you. It is the place to be for several days of endless activity. By dealer survey, Baltimore is America’s favorite numismatic city. Few others have so many attractions.

Held in the beautiful Baltimore Convention Center in the Inner Harbor area, the show is close to Hilton, Marriott, Sheraton, Hyatt, and other hotels—in every price level. Fine restaurants abound as are shopping and entertainment facilities. Bring your family.

Get set to have a great time. We hope to see you there!

The Sale

On Wednesday, March 30, we will offer Part II of the Twin Leaf Collection of Large Cents. On Thursday, March 31, and on Friday, April 1, action and opportunities will be nonstop! On Thursday evening starting at 5 p.m. our Rarities Night session will include many items of quality and rarity that are seldom seen.

The Fossil Creek Collection, the Monument Hill Collection, and the Joseph Freedberg Collection each feature early coins by types plus many individual rarities. The Collection of a Southern Gentleman showcases one of our favorite series—Type I double eagles from 1850 to 1866 (ending with a notable 1866-S), one of the most dynamic sections of American numismatics in the marketplace today. The Strong, one of the most popular museums in the United States, has favored us with a consignment of Indian Peace and other notable medals.

The Collection of Henry Mitchell showcases a complete date run of half cents from 1793 to 1857, including the famous 1796 and the Proof-only rarities of the 1830s and 1840s—an offering that will be long remembered. Howard’s New Bust Assets NGC Registry Set, as it is titled, offers the opportunity to acquire many different varieties of Capped Bust half dollars 1807 to 1836, many in affordable grades. Morgan silver dollars and other popular series also beckon.

All in all, our Baltimore sale offers the opportunity to add to your present specialties or to start a completely new collection.

Plan to Participate!

If you plan to come to Baltimore, the red carpet will be rolled out for you. Arrive a day or two earlier than usual and take part in our Twin Leaf Collection sale of copper cents on Wednesday, the day before the Expo opens. These coins are described in a separate catalog.

Meet and greet our staff during lot viewing, or at the sale itself, or continuously at our bourse table. We will be buying, selling, and accepting consignments. In addition, we will be happy to simply say hello or to do our best to help with anything else.

Have a question about our auction? We’re here to help—from lot viewing through the sale sessions to pick-up. If you are staying at home, we have good news for you. Using our dynamic Internet site you can participate in virtual reality—in real time watching our auctioneer at the podium, seeing the item being offered, and featuring an enticing "Bid!" button! If you arrange it in advance,  you can also bid by telephone on important lots.

After our Baltimore sale closes we have a special Internet section with its own delights and treasures. The Cramer Collection of tokens from dies by Robert Lovett, Jr., may well be the finest ever offered. Plan to be a part of that as well.

Thank you for your interest and participation in our sale. I am looking forward to seeing you in Baltimore or to your bidding online.

All good wishes,

Q, David Bowers
