This week, we focus on a perfect NGC-certified, MS-70 example of the 2009 Ultra High Relief. This one-year issue was a recreation of one of Saint-Gauden’s original concepts for his famous 1907 issue. Struck on a smaller diameter, but thicker planchet, this coin weighs a full ounce of gold, with the intricate details struck up in ultra high relief, as were the sculptor’s original intentions.
Issued in 2009, this is one modern issue that has remained popular among collectors. Since this is a recent issue, struck only for collectors, most examples that have been certified have been graded above MS-67, usually in the 68 and 69 range. The lovely example we offer in this week’s iAuction is graded MS-70 and is numismatic perfection. To view this and the other items in this week’s iAuction, visit StacksBowers.com
