As the live session of our Official Auction of the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Winter Expo comes to a close we turn our attention to the Internet session of the auction still to come. Thank you to everyone who has helped make this another successful Stack’s Bowers currency auction.
The Internet only session of the auction contains 557 lots across many genres of American paper money including Colonial and Continental, Obsolete, Confederate, Large and Small Type, Fractional Currency, Nationals and more. Bidders will be pleased to see a continuation of wonderful Obsolete Proofs from the Peter Mayer Collection Part II, including lot 13133, a charming $5 Proof from the Spicket Falls Bank of Methuen, Massachusetts, estimated at $800-$1200.
A number of fine Confederate notes are also offered in this session, including lot 13317, a scarce T-40 1862 $100 "Train Note" issued by Capt. and AQM Albert Danner, estimated at $300-$500. Among type notes, lot 13367 features an impressive Fr. 36 1917 $1 Legal Tender Note bearing low serial number B81A. That lot is estimated at $500-$700. A handsome Fr. 2201-G 1934 $500 Federal Reserve Note from the Chicago district graded Choice About Uncirculated 58 EPQ is offered as lot 13483 and carries an estimate of $1250-$1750.
