The 1915-D Barber half dollar represents the final year of this
series and is often a popular choice for high-end type sets of 20th
century coinage. The mintage is 1.1 million coins, falling just below the 1.6
million halves struck in San Francisco the same year. With about 1,250 Mint State examples
remaining, the 1915-D is readily available in Uncirculated grades, though the
vast majority of these are in MS-64 and lower. Gem examples are scarce, numbering
perhaps just 200 pieces in total.
