The past couple of weeks
have been a lot of fun. We have had the opportunity to buy some interesting
things, many of which don’t walk in everyday. These items ran the gamut from
group of platinum rubles from the 1800s to a modern 2000 Sacagawea “Cheerios” dollar.
In the case of the
latter, back in 2000 when these new dollars were first coming out, there were a
few different finishes. One, known as the Cheerios dollar, had more detailed
tail feathers on the reverse than the standard pieces. These special pieces
were put into Cheerios cereal boxes as a promotion and today are worth many
thousands of dollars! Our client brought in one of these, along with the
accompanying penny in their original packaging. We got the coins certified for
them and then made them a generous offer that they accepted. Keep an eye out
for this piece in one of our future auctions!
