We previously provided a bit of a backstory on the rise of private tokens in British commerce—the field of numismatics that would come to be known as “Conder Tokens”—in an August 2019 blog post in advance of some interesting pieces coming up in that year’s October Collectors Choice Online (CCO) auction.
Our February 2023 CCO Auction of World and Ancient Coins will once again have a strong selection of these enchanting issues. Mostly from the final decade of the 18th century and offering an array of Mint State grades, these specimens should provide every collector with one or more angles to pursue, such as Pidcock’s animal series, Kempson’s series of London buildings, or the “druid” types from Anglesey in Wales. Also among this section totaling 49 pieces will be found a number of types offering contemporary political commentary and satire. Look for all these fascinating tokens in our CCO, coming online in early February.
