In Denver, during our August ANA sale, we will offer two remarkable and extremely scarce Solomon Islands notes: Pick 2, and 3, the Ten Shillings, and One Pound notes, both in Very Fine condition. Each is one of only two of its type graded in the PMG Population Report. The Ten Shillings is graded VF 20 with a VF 25 the other example. The One Pound is the finest of the two graded at VF 35, with the other graded VF 20. All notes from this issue are rare and both of the offered examples are the first we have seen or handled.
The first of these 1916 series notes we will offer is the Pick 2, Ten Shillings note. Red primary inks make up the borders, under-print and arms at top with, black ink on the left and right counters, serial numbers and other worded detail. Close inspection reveals very well executed restoration that we feel will aid the future survival of the note.
The second note, the Pick 2, One Pound note, is the second highest denomination issued, with only the ultra-rare Five Pound notes being of higher face value. Strong color and appeal remain throughout the offered example, with bold overprinted serial numbers, date and signatures noted. The restoration is mostly limited to the margins and is of high quality, only visible upon heavy scrutiny.
Our Official Auction of the ANA World’s Fair of Money will be held the first week of August in Denver, Colorado. If you have any questions please e-mail info@stacksbowers.com.
