I’m happy to announce that Stack’s Bowers Galleries will be showcasing the first installment of The Arlington Collection of Seated Liberty Half Dollars in our March 25-29 Spring 2024 Showcase Auction. The sale is the Official Auction of the Whitman Coin & Collectibles Spring Expo to be held March 21-23, 2024, and the lots will be available for viewing at that event in Baltimore.
The Arlington Collection has been assembled over the course of 25 years and comprises many finest known and/or top pop examples in both Mint State and Proof. Many fabled rarities harken back to the John J. Pittman Collection, the Bob Simpson Collection and other storied collections of the past. The coins are currently being imaged and the catalog process is going full speed ahead for this remarkable offering. Of particular note in the Proof series is an 1839 With Drapery graded Proof 64 (NGC) and an 1840 Small Letters graded Proof 65 (NGC). Notable Mint State issues include an incredible 1846 Tall Date MS-65 (PCGS) CAC in a Doily holder and an incredibly rare 1847/6 in MS-62 (PCGS).
