Large format, Peoples Republic of China notes are consistently found in Stack’s Bowers and Ponterio’s auctions. The People’s Republic of China banknotes are rare in high quality, and have also been severely counterfeited. It is uncommon to find issued PRC notes certified by grading services and even less common to find certified Specimens. However, Stack’s, Bowers and Ponterio has one such note in their August Hong Kong auction — a 1953 10 Yuan Specimen from the People’s Republic of China. This wide format banknote is problem free with just a minor centerfold barely visible through the holder. Punch through embossing can also be seen through the holder.
Another hallmark of the firm’s auctions is a constant supply of fresh and rare Chartered Bank of India, Australia, and China banknotes. The upcoming sale includes a plethora of such notes that include but are not limited to, a very nice Pick 48, a 1924 5 Dollar large format piece in Very Fine condition and the finest example of P-S203a, a 1928 10 Dollar note issued in Tientsin.
