The other sessions had strong bidding participation as well, starting with nearly a million dollars’ worth of world banknotes trading hands. A quickly growing specialty here at Stack’s Bowers and Ponterio, our experts were pleased to offer one of the finest selections of world notes. For more information, see Matt Quinn’s article about this session.
The coin sessions in our Main ANA world Sessions began with Ancient coins of Greece and Rome. Our solid offering showed that there was much collector support in the marketplace, with most coins selling around or above our estimates. Gold coins and crowns and minors didn’t disappoint with very strong prices in many areas. Great selections of coins across all price points, from several hundred dollars to five figures found new homes, with areas such as Brazil, Britain, Poland, and Russia being particularly popular. For complete prices realized, please refer to our website, www.stacksbowers.com.
Our next Stack’s Bowers and Ponterio sale will be held in conjunction with the November Baltimore Whitman Convention. Consignments for that sale are in, and the catalog is being written. The next sale, open for consignments is our January 2014 New York International Numismatic Convention sale, and we will be accepting coins for this important sale through the middle of October. Please contact any of our consignment directors to discuss your collection or holdings. We look forward to hearing from you.
