Lot 82149 of our upcoming April 6th Hong Kong auction is one of the most exciting notes in the sale. This P- UNL Printer’s Design comes to us by way of the Banque de L’Indo-Chine in French Indo-China. The proposed design was initially supposed to be the 100 Piastres design for Pick 18, but never made it past this design proposal. This note is extremely rare and the Haiphong designation only puts the note in further rare company.
The proposed design was created by H. Bellery Desfontaines, and features a detailed face with the lifelike images we are accustomed to seeing in Desfontaines’ work. This note has boardwalk margins and a cool pastel color theme of pink, light green, and olive. The watermark, intended for placement at the bottom left, is hand-drawn in pink making the note’s Design Proposal seem even more pronounced. Light folds exist in the note from storage. Minor pinholes are also mentioned in the comments section of the holder.
The note will be offered in our live paper money session of the Hong Kong Paper Money Show. To view lots and bid visit www.stacksbowers.com. We are currently accepting consignments for the rest of our 2016 auction season.
