In lot
50423 of our upcoming May 4, 2020, Hong Kong Auction of Chinese, Hong Kong and
World Paper Money we will be offering a Zanzibar 1 Rupee printed by TDLR. It’s
the first 1 Rupee we have handled in many years and was the only note missing
from the Zanzibar set we brokered in 2017.
Notes from Zanzibar are scarce and only a few become
available each year. PMG has graded just four notes of this type, with only two
grading finer than that to be featured in our May sale. This note is well
traveled, yet remains attractive for the technical grade, with blue ink, and a
mostly intact design. For accuracy, we mention light rust at top, and a small
hole at center where the vertical and horizontal folds meet. It is certified by
PMG as a Fine 12 and carries an estimate of $8,000 to $12,000.
