We are excited to present a satiny, vibrant, choice example of this popular Bechtler issue in lot 3231 of our June Rarities Night Session. The finish is semi-prooflike, and the coin displays even color in bright olive-gold. The devices are sharp in all areas, rarely seen for an example of this issue. Even rarer is the Choice Mint State preservation that characterizes both sides, the surfaces of which are impressively smooth with exceptional eye appeal. Kagin-4 is the latest gold dollar type attributed to Christopher Bechtler, produced as part of his seventh series of private gold coinage as attributed by the legend BECHTLER without the initial C and the weight standard of 28 grains per dollar. This is also one of the more popular Bechtler issues with today’s collectors due to the bold engraving blunder on the reverse with the letter N in ONE reversed. While fairly available for a Territorial gold coin, the K-4 Bechtler dollar is conditionally challenging and only infrequently encountered in Mint State. Just four examples exist finer across both PCGS and NGC with none finer than MS-64. Pioneer Gold enthusiasts and specialists have here an important opportunity to acquire a lovely example of this famous Bechtler variety.
