Time and time again our weekly iAuctions offer up an amazing item. This week an extremely rare pattern mini-dollar of 1836 is offered. Struck in silver with a plain edge, this rarity features a cap and rays obverse motif similar to that then in use on silver coins in our neighbor to the south, Mexico. The reverse features a wreath composed of a single palm frond with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around, the date below, and 1 D. on two lines within the wreath. The dollar pattern, Judd-69, is an early entry into the mini-dollar format that would finally reach fruition in 1849 after the gold strikes in California, when our first official gold dollar was produced.
Far more than just a sale of “stuff,” our weekly iAuction event is often laden with high-grade and high-quality coins in copper, nickel, silver, and gold, as well as with other disciplines such as the rare pattern offered here. Perhaps best of all, however, is the fact that you can sit back and relax in the comfort of your own home while you bid on great coins to add to your collection. If you have participated before, we’re glad you’re back. If you’ve never tried one of our iAuctions, we hope you find the time to explore this new and easy way to build your collection. We wish you all good luck!
