Lot 70001 of our upcoming December 8-9 Hong Kong Auction also happens to be one of our most exciting notes of the sale. This Yuan Dynasty note predates the Ming Dynasty by almost 100 years! It is a note that promises to be the focal point in any collection it enters.
The Yuan Dynasty lasted from 1271 to 1368 and has major cultural significance in Chinese culture. This note has been preserved over centuries and its existence in the current condition is miraculous. The note is without an assigned grade from PCGS BG having received a Genuine designation. The only other note of the middle ages we have handled from China, other than the frequent One Kuan Ming notes, was a 400 Cash Ming Dynasty note which brought $119,500 as lot 32001 in our April 2014 Hong Kong sale. It’s likely that our estimate of $40,000 to $60,000 may seem conservative when all is said and done.
The note will be offered in our live paper money session of the Hong Kong Paper Money Show. To view lots and bid visit www.stacksbowers.com. We are currently accepting consignments for our 2016 auction season. To include your items, contact a consignment director at 800-458-4646 or visit our website at StacksBowers.com.
