The
Early American Coppers club, known to many in the hobby simply as EAC, holds
its annual convention in a different city each year. This year all of the best
known collectors and dealers in this popular collecting discipline will be
descending on Charlotte, North Carolina, April 7-10 for what promises to be a
great convention. The Westin Charlotte Hotel on College Street is the site of
the convention and a convenient place to stay for the show. Our good friend
John Kraljevich is bourse chairman so the show promises to be outstanding.
Stack’s Bowers Galleries will have a presence at the convention at tables 8 and
9, a cozy corner location near the entrance. John Pack from our California
office and Frank Van Valen from our New Hampshire office will be in attendance,
saying hello to old friends, making new acquaintances, and accepting auction
consignments for upcoming sales.
One
of the highlights of the show promises to be the exhibition of early copper
large cents from the D. Brent Pogue Collection that will be sold in an upcoming
event. Interested collectors and dealers are invited to examine the coins in
person during bourse hours. Security will be strong and there will no doubt be
a waiting line of viewers, but the wait will be well worth the time. Among the
highlights will be high-grade AU 1793 Liberty Cap cents followed by a date run
of cents up to 1814. Each date is represented, some by several different
varieties. Other highlights include a Mint State-67 RB 1794 cent, easily one of
the finest examples of the entire type known. Also of importance are Mint State
1799 and 1804 cents, both rare prizes in any grade. Many of the displayed coins
will be the finest certified of their kind and the likes of this display may
not be duplicated for some time to come, if ever. We look forward to seeing you
