Unique Kingfisher, Territory of Oklahoma $10 Red Seal Highlights the Stack’s Bowers Galleries November Baltimore Auction

A unique $10 Red Seal from the Farmers National Bank of
Kingfisher, Territory of Oklahoma (CH# 6702), will be featured in the Stack’s
Bowers Galleries’ Official Currency Auction of the Whitman Coin &
Collectibles Winter Expo in Baltimore, Maryland.

The short-lived bank was organized on March 30, 1903, and
it issued a minuscule $11,050 worth of $10 and $20 Red Seals before going into
receivership in November 1905. In 1916 just $170 in notes were reported to
remain outstanding. Since that time only the present $10 note, serial number
214 from plate A, has come forward.

Bold red overprint inks are featured on the moderately
circulated note. The signatures of the bank officers are neatly penned in dark
inks. PMG has assigned the grade of Very Fine 30 to the note. The note carries
a pre-auction estimate of $40,000-$60,000.

The town of Kingfisher was founded on April 22, 1889,
after federal owned land in the area was opened to settlement in a land run.
The town was named for one of the area’s early settlers, a man named King
Fisher.

The Stack’s Bowers Galleries Official Auction of the
Whitman Coin & Collectibles Winter Expo will be held November 12-15, 2019.
