Our Official Auction of the NYINC will take place on
January 11th, 2019, beginning at 2:00 PM Eastern Time in the Grand Hyatt on
42nd Street in New York City. Among the highlights is a very intriguing piece
in lot 30333. For the first time in our history, we will offer a Reunion 1000
Francs Phoenix note that contains black serial numbers, in contrast to the red
serial numbers often found on these pieces.
Generally, this is a very scarce note, as the Phoenix
design is nearly impossible to find as an issued Reunion note. The black serial
number anomaly greatly enhances the rarity. This note is from the Ruth Hill
Collection, but had previously been misattributed as a French Equatorial Africa
Note. PCGS Currency mentions Small Edge Tears, and Repairs in the comments
section, but collectors can easily overlook those comments due to the rarity
and opportunity presented here. We previously sold a Reunion 1000 Francs with
red serial numbers that was much more problematic for over $3,000.
