Highlights from the World Paper Money Session of our August 2014 ANA Sale

The recent Stacks Bowers Galleries official world paper money auction of the 2014 ANA World’s Fair of Money was an important offering of high value rarities that saw fierce competition throughout the 136-lot offering. Particular focus was on a sensational collection of Icelandic notes with designs that have not been publically available to collectors for several years. A rare 1904 dated 50 Kronur in a Very Fine grade realized an impressive $16,450. A 1927 100 Kronur design, offering a grade rarely associated with the design type and certified by PMG as Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ, resulted in strong bidding and sold well above estimate, realizing $11,750. The most important offering of the Tuesday morning session was a prized 20 Francs 1905 series Danish West Indies piece, a denomination missing in even advanced collections. Fierce bidding by the floor, phone and internet ensued with an opening at $11,000 and final realization of $32,900. An important Internet only session of over 400 lots of world currency is still open and bids are being accepted. Several scarce designs can be found in this session, which will close Tuesday August 12 at 3:00 PM PT.
