Lot 50006 of our August 14th Hong Kong Sale features a very rare Specimen Proof Set from the Ta Ching Government Bank. Individual notes on this series are rare and full denomination sets are nearly impossible to find. Typically, these designs are only offered in proof form with face and back printings on separate stock.
The specimen notes offered here are far more desirable than the proof notes as they have full face and back printings and are also printed on banknote paper. Each note shares a common vignette on the face with a flying dragon over junks and a portrait vignette of Prince Chun at left. Exceptional intricate engraving can be seen on both face and back of each denomination.
All of the notes are graded PMG Extremely Fine 40 Net, Restoration with the exception of the One Dollar note which does not have the Restoration comment. We cannot determine the location of the restoration on the three higher denomination notes leading us to believe it was incredibly minor. Each note retains stunning original embossing, color, and all show only light circulation.
This lot will be offered in our live session of the Hong Kong Paper Money Sale in August. We are currently accepting consignments for the rest of our 2016 and beginning of our 2017 auction season.
