This Week at our February Rarities Auction!

Don’t forget that this week, beginning at 2 PM on February 10, 2016, at Sotheby’s headquarters in New York City, our Stack’s Bowers Rarities Auction will be held. This exciting sale features various notes that have been mentioned in blogs during prior weeks; however, there are of course many other important items that you will have an opportunity to add to your collections!

One such desirable piece is lot 38, a gorgeous Fr. 374 1890 “Fancy Back” $20 Treasury note from a short run discovered decades ago.  Featured are Rosecrans and Nebeker signatures as well as a small red scalloped Treasury seal and problem free paper. This beauty carries an estimate of $20,000 to $30,000. The Paris, Illinois First National Bank note, lot 47, is among the finest known First Charter notes and offers incredible paper quality, color, and originality while carrying a $30,000 to $40,000 estimate.

Other unique offerings include lot 48, a La Crosse, Wisconsin Fr. 391 Lazy Deuce carrying a $15,000 to $20,000 estimate and lot 44, a $50 Gold Certificate in a PCGS 66 PPQ. The latter note is expected to garner plenty of attention as a Gem 67 example sold for a record price of $70,000 in 2013.
