It’s hard to believe it has already been a year since our last ANA World’s Fair of Money sale! With over 650 notes offered, this year’s sale is considerably larger than our 2015 auction, and will feature some incredible pieces spread over all genres of American bank notes.
The past 12 months have seen some exciting new discoveries, mainly in the category of National Bank Notes. Rare large and small size type notes continue to dominate the marketplace, while Confederate notes have continued to attract more and more interest among new collectors.
This session showcases some outstanding collections, starting with The Paymaster Collection. This cabinet has been cataloged by world-renowned Military Payment Certificate expert Fred Schwan, who calls it the most significant and important collection to ever come out. It features a complete series set including extremely rare replacement notes, as well as many other numismatic treasures.
Likewise, a wonderful selection of Confederate Bank notes will be found in the Old Virginia Collection, highlighted by a lovely T-4 along with many other important pieces. Our offering of large and small size type will hold great appeal for collectors and includes the one of the finest 1890 $100 “Baby Watermelon” Treasury note, graded PCGS Currency Extremely Fine 45. We are also pleased to present an 1933 $10 Silver Certificate in PMG 67EPQ, the finest graded by either service.
The strongest section in our ANA World’s Fair of Money is undoubtedly National Bank Notes. We begin with an extremely important discovery note: an 1865 $100 Original Series from The Salem National Banking Company of Salem, New Jersey. Until today, no $100 First Charter period notes were known, either in private collections or government institutions.
