Our recently completed 2022 Summer Global Showcase Auction realized sales exceeding $60 million, a record total for our more than 85 years of numismatic auctions. The sale, which encompassed United States coins and currency and World and Ancient coins, featured more than 9,500 lots across 16 live and six internet only sessions. Stand-alone catalogs featured The Sydney F. Martin Collection Part I, The Virginian Collection, The Georgia Gold Rush Collection, The Fairmont Collection – JBR Set, The Salton Collection Part III and The U.S. Mint special offering of the “At Dawn and At Dusk” gold and silver eagles. In addition, catalogs featuring U.S. currency, U.S. coins and exonumia, World and Ancient coins, and Rarities Night brought to the market additional rarities and featured cabinets including the Augustana Collection, the Knepper Collection, and the Mocatta Collection, the last of which comprised just 56 lots but realized more than $7 million. Leading the individual prices was the 1825/4 $5 Proof from the Mocatta Collection which sold for $4.1 million and is now the 15th most valuable U.S. coin ever sold at auction.
