The Ronald Lyle Collection

A collector of gold coins in the 1960s and 1970s, Ronald Lyle selected areas that sparked his interest in history. We at Stack’s Bowers and Stack’s Bowers and Ponterio are pleased to have been selected to offer his collection to a new generation of numismatists in our official auction of the Whitman Coin and Collectibles Baltimore Expo in November.

We are pleased to offer a high grade selection of English hammered gold coins in our Ponterio sessions, as well as an interesting collection of California fractional gold pieces that were certified in the early 1990s by PCGS. In addition, we will be featuring some United States gold coins in early generation PCGS and ANACS holders.

Of particular note are the aforementioned groups of English hammered gold coins and California Fractional pieces. In the former group, interesting, high-grade pieces have been recently submitted to PCGS for grading, including a Commonwealth Unite of 1653 that I wrote about a couple of weeks ago. The latter group has many rarities and important types, including a “Humbert” and Peacock reverse, as well as a Washington Head. Rounding out the offering is a Bechtler gold dollar and a 1911-D quarter eagle in PCGS AU-55, both in first generation PCGS holders.

Diverse collections like this are not often offered. We are proud to be able to offer the Ronald Lyle Collection in our November Baltimore sale.
