To commemorate the bicentennial of Lincoln’s birth (and the centennial of the Lincoln Cent) four special reverses were employed on the cents of 2009. Released quarterly throughout the year, they depicted various periods in the life of Abraham Lincoln.

Special strikings and sets were produced for collectors including a satin-finish set struck in 95% copper as well as the Abraham Lincoln Coin and Chronicles set consisting of the four cents in Proof (2009-S) and the Lincoln Commemorative Silver Dollar.
