Although A. G. Carlton was one of the most prominent figures in the Cripple Creek district at the turn of the century, no information has been located by the writer concerning a "Carlton Mining Company" located elsewhere at an earlier date. The only gold bar we have traced bears inscriptions indicating it was made in Colorado Territory in 1869 . If so, it is logical that the operation would have been in the mountains to the west of Denver, possibly around Central City.
