American Proclamation Pieces of Ferdinand VI of Spain

Ferdinand VI of Spain was born on February 23, 1714 to Philip V and Princess Mary of Savoy. He was born in Madrid and ascended to the throne just after the death of his father on July 9, 1746. He was proclaimed King on August 10 of the same year, but was not proclaimed in Spanish possessions until a later date. As such, these medals do not bear the date of his proclamation since it was different in each territory. Ferdinand "The Wise" was married to Princess Magdalena Theresa of Portugal at the age of 16. She passed away on August 27, 1758, and Ferdinand died almost a year later. After his passing, his brother, Charles III, ascended to the throne.

The medals in this series were produced for different Spanish possessions and include Buenos Aires, Chihuahua, Cordova, Guadalaxara, Guanabacoa, Guatemala, Havana, Honda, Mexico, Panama, Puebla De Los Angeles, Porto Rico, Santa Fe De Bogota, Santiago De Cuba, Santo Domingo, Sombrerete, Venezuela, Vera Cruz, and Zacatecas.

The American Proclamation Pieces of Ferdinand VI of Spain Betts Medals include Betts-338 to Betts-380.
