The obverse of the medal shows a bust of King Charles III facing the right. On the reverse is a rider placed over two mountains. The rider is facing the right side of the medal. The proclamation festivities for Charles III took place on 25 July 1760, with medals issued in sizes corresponding to that of 1/2, 1, 2 and 4 Reales. Betts-461 was struck with a different obverse die than seen on other examples.
The example to the left was sold by Stack's Bowers Galleries in the January 2015 NYINC Auction, where it realized $528.
