Herrera 1

A proposal for this medal was listed by Herrera but a specimen has never been discovered. More recent research by Christopher R. McDowell in his book The Early Betts Medal Companion, Medals of America's Discovery and Colonization (1492-1737), Volume 1, suggests that this medal was never produced,. although a proposal was presented. A manuscript in the National Academy of Madrid provides a description of the medal, saying that it would be struck in silver for Philip II's proclamation in Peru. The obverse would show Philip and Mary's busts, while the reverse would present the royal arms of Spain.
