1941-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar
Struck on the West Coast on the very cusp of World War II, the 1941-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar is the undisputed key date issue in the popular Walking Liberty half dollar "short set" of 1941 to 1947. It has a mintage of 8,098,000 pieces, and while not the smallest in the series, the nation's burgeoning wartime economy and the tumultuous events of the deadliest conflict in human history resulted in relatively few examples being spared circulation. Even so, enough were preserved to make the 1941-S readily obtainable in Mint State grades below MS-67. At the MS-67 level the issue is exceedingly rare.
