The mintage for the 1933-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar was 1,786,000 pieces, a tiny sum when one considers how many billions of coins are struck today of various dates and mints. Furthermore, these were struck at the absolute depth of the Depression in America, at a time when a half dollar represented a lot of money to most people, certainly not something to save for the future. This coin is among the more obtainable pre-1934 Walking Liberty half dollars in lower grades, and is scarce in MS-66 and rare any finer.
