1930-S Indian Head Eagle
Eagerly sought at all levels of preservation, both circulated and Mint State, the 1930-S is one of the rarest Indian eagles in terms of total number of coins believed extant. Very few of the 96,000 coins struck left the Mint prior to President Franklin Roosevelt's issuance of the Gold Recall Act in 1933. Those that remained in government hands were melted in later years, accounting for the rarity of this issue.
The example to the left was sold by Stack's Bowers Galleries in the November 2023 Showcase Auction, where it realized $50,400.
