1923-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar
The 1923-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar issue begins the period where weaker strikes are common on San Francisco Mint pieces, and thus considerable patience must be used to locate a coin with the depth of strike noted here. Furthermore, this is the toughest of the post 1921 to 1929 issues to find in Gem condition with the combination of a decent to sharp strike. Demand had slacked off with the sharp economic downtrend of the prior year. Thus, these tougher times meant fewer half dollars were saved, and this is born out in the surviving numbers.
