The United States Mint at Philadelphia struck 1,475 Proof Liberty Head nickels in 1907 for sale to contemporary collectors. This is the lowest mintage for any Proof in this series, which means the 1907 is a key date. In keeping with the Proof production methods introduced by the Mint shortly after the turn of the century, most survivors exhibit a uniformly brilliant finish that will not support a Cameo designation from the leading certification services.

The example to the left was sold by Stack's Bowers Galleries in the November 2023 Showcase Auction, where it realized $2,880.
