1906 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle
Proof coins represent the finest the Mint had to offer and nearly all of the gold issues in this format were produced in extremely small quantities. More than 176,000 circulation strike quarter eagles were made in 1906, but only 160 coins were struck in Proof.
The example to the left was sold by Stack's Bowers Galleries in the August 2013 Chicago ANA Auction, where it sold for $44,062.
