Despite a respectable mintage of 1,725 pieces, the Proof 1906 is a scarce issue by Liberty Head nickel standards. As well, the vast majority of survivors are neither expertly preserved or boldly contrasted. Finding an example that gives you both of those elements will be a challenge.

The example to the left was sold by Stack's Bowers Galleries in the November 2012 Baltimore Auction, where it realized $10,281.
