1904 Barber Half Dollar

The 1904 Proof Barber Half Dollar is virtually unseen with a deep cameo designation due to the way the Mint was producing proofs during this time period. Beginning in the early 1900s and lasting until around 1911, Proofs displayed more of a brilliant finish rather than a frosty finish. This, in turn, led to less cameo and deep cameo designations.
The example to the left was sold by Stack's Bowers Galleries in the January 2012 Americana Auction, where it realized $3,162.
