The San Francisco Mint produced 954,000 double eagles in 1903. The Mint State population probably exceeds 10,000 pieces and may approach 15,000, most of which have been repatriated from foreign bank hoards beginning after World War II.
The example to the left was sold by Stack's Bowers Galleries in the Spring 2022 Showcase Auction, where it realized $18,000.
