The Mint produced 1,790 Proof cents in 1903, 755 of which were included in the year's silver Proof sets and the remaining 1,035 of which went into the two-piece minor coin Proof sets. Although multiple die pairings are known for the Proof 1901 and 1902, Snow (2014) has identified only a single variety for the Proof 1903. Together with the 1902, the 1903 Proof Indian cent is the most commonly-encountered certified issue with the Full Red designation. Cameos, as for most dates after 1901, are scarce.
The example to the left was sold by Stack's Bowers Galleries in the February 2015 Americana Auction, where it realized $17,037.
