Although a Mintage of 777 Proofs was reported, considerably fewer are thought to have survived to the present time. Most 1902 Proofs have semi-brilliant (rather than frosty) design elements, a trend that seemingly commenced in 1901, and continued to the end of the Barber design type. Notable exceptions to the preceding occurred between the years 1909 and 1911, when Proofs with frosty motifs were produced in substantial numbers.
The example to the left was sold by Stack's Bowers Galleries in the March 2012 Baltimore Auction, where it realized $2,070.
