1892 Barber Half Dollar
Certified CAM Percentage: 28%
Certified DCAM Percentage: 3.0%
The highest mintage Proof Barber half dollar, the first year 1892 was produced to the extent of 1,245 pieces to meet particularly strong contemporary demand that the Mint anticipated in connection with the launching of the new dime, quarter and half dollar designs that year. A favorite with type collectors for decades, and the most common certified Proof Barber half, the 1892 is readily obtainable in lower grades but becomes increasingly scarce above the Choice (PR-64) level.
The example to the left was sold by Stack's Bowers Galleries in the Spring 2024 Showcase Auction, where it realized $7,200.
