1890-O Morgan Dollar
Guidelines for Collecting:
The 1890-O dollar is plentiful in circulated grades as well as in lower Mint State grades. The majority of examples are lightly struck in various areas. Some that were struck from overused dies will show flow lines and granularity. The most sharply struck coins will take some searching. Luster is usually attractive and rich on the 1890-O.
Availability in Circulated Grades:
Always available in EF and AU with not too much difficulty of acquisition.
Availability in Mint State Grades:
Name your grade and it is no doubt available, even at the ultra-gem level though those pieces should be considered very elusive. Find a Mint State-64 example with a sharp strike and frosty luster and you’ve hit a home run.
Availability in Proof:
None produced.
The example to the left was sold by Stack's Bowers Galleries in the March 2021 Showcase Auction, where it realized $10,200.
