Certified Red Percentage: 4%
Certified Cameo Percentage: 1%
The mintage for this issue is a generous 2,960 Proofs, and examples are available in an absolute sense. Many have been cleaned, however, and the use of a slightly different alloy for some of the planchets further compounds the difficulty in locating a boldly colored, richly original example. Both the 1887 and 1888 are among the toughest Proof Indian cents to locate in Full Red.
The example to the left was sold by Stack's Bowers Galleries in the August 2019 Rosemont ANA Auction, where it realized $3,840.
