1882 Liberty Head Eagle
Circulation strike eagle production at the Philadelphia Mint set records in 1880, 1881 and 1882, most of the coins being used in international commerce. Fortunately for today's collectors, many 1882 eagles have since returned to native shores. Heavily abraded coins are unfortunately the norm with most Mint State survivors grading MS-62, MS-63 or, less frequently, MS-64.
The example to the left was sold by Stack's Bowers Galleries in the August 2016 Anaheim ANA Auction, where it realized $64,625.
