One of the great rarities in Gobrecht's Liberty eagle series, this date experienced a production run of just 797 pieces, the third lowest mintage tally in the entire eagle denomination, 1795 to 1933; only the 1875 and 1876 rarities have lower mintage figures.

The example to the left was sold by Stack's Bowers Galleries in the March 2015 Baltimore Auction, where it realized $64,625.
