The number struck of the 1858 quarter eagle is not known, but the quantity must have been very small. Today, Proofs appear on the market only when significant offerings occur, such as old time collections.

The example to the left was sold by Stack's Bowers Galleries in the Kennywood Collection, where it sold for $82,800.
