1847-O Liberty Head Eagle
Produced to the extent of 571,500 pieces, the 1847-O is by far the highest mintage eagle from the New Orleans Mint. It is the most common No Motto Liberty Head ten from this coinage facility with survivors available in circulated grades through the lower reaches of AU. In Mint State, however, this issue develops into a significant condition rarity, as do most early eagles of this design type. Fewer than 15 Uncirculated coins are believed extant, perhaps no more than a dozen.
The example to the left was sold by Stack's Bowers Galleries in the November 2017 Baltimore Auction, where it realized $78,000.
