1845-D Liberty Head Quarter Eagle
With a similar mintage (19,460 vs. 17,332 coins), the 1845-D is nearly on par with the 1844-D in terms of overall rarity in the Dahlonega Mint quarter eagle series. In AU and Mint State, however, the 1845-D is by far the rarer of the two. In fact, the 1845-D places in the middle of this Southern gold series in high grade rarity, outdistancing such other issues as the 1839-D, 1846-D, 1850-D and 1859-D, as well as the 1844-D.
The example to the left was sold by Stack's Bowers Galleries in the November 2011 Baltimore Auction, where it realized $54,625.
