Today’s highlight from the upcoming Stack’s Bowers Galleries official
auction of the New York International Numismatic Convention is a highly collectible
modern Chinese gold piefort issue. This piece commemorates the beginning of the
Chinese Olympic committee in 1980. The obverse design features the ancient
Chinese roots of the sports found in the modern Olympics. This piece depicts
two archers on a duck hunt, with the Chinese Olympic Committee symbol in the
upper left field. The reverse depicts a massive People’s Republic of China
symbol, with the denomination just below. This type is the only gold 300 Yuan
produced by China. This piefort issue has a mintage of just 500 pieces, and is
very much in demand by collectors of modern Chinese coins. This coin displays
hard liquid gold mirrored fields with no signs of contact or handling and
lightly frosted devices showing no breaks or flecks. This gorgeous modern gold
is sure to attract significant interest when it crosses the auction podium.
